United States - Tea

November 10, 2017

This lovely card came into my mail slot recently from the US.  Jacy sent the card and had a friendly, happy message on the back, so it was a pleasure to receive.

She wrote,

"Hello Helen!

I went to Japan back in 2008 and loved it there! I see that you like The Grand Budapest Hotel...one of my favourites! I hope you like the postcard. I love teacups and teapots so I have a bunch of these postcards.

I live in Richmond, VA and have 2 little girls.
Take Care! -Jacy"

Algeria - Yarn Related

November 8, 2017

This card surprised me when it arrived in our mail slot.  It is from Algeria!  I've never had a card from Algeria before, so it was a lovely treat.

The sender had a friendly note on the back, and even wrote a little something in Arabic that unfortunately I can't read, so it was an interesting and cool card.

He wrote,

Hello Helen!

I hope you're fine and hope you'll like this card showing a typical Algerian girl knitting a traditional carpet.

[Arabic writing]

Warmest greetings from Algeria!

All the best.

Kader"

To be honest, I don't think the girl is knitting.  It looks to me like she is winding wool.  I believe these carpets are woven, but I may be mistaken.  If anyone knows, please let me know.

A very interesting stamp with different kinds of energy being featured.

Finland

November 7, 2017

This nature card came from Finland to me.  The sender wrote a friendly note on the back and even recommended a book to me, so that made it a good Postcrossing in my book!

She wrote,
"Hello Helen!  My name is Taru and I'm from Finland.  I recently read a book called The Help by Kathryn Stockett.  It was really good.  I would totally recommend it.  It's been really snowy here in Finland and I love it! I hope you have a great autumn! ~Taru"

This is quite a pretty little stamp too.  Finnish stamps are always interesting, in my opinion.

Japan - Gotochi Card

November 6, 2017

I am back!  I finally got a few cards sent out and have already received a couple. I hope to be able to post a little more regularly for a while.

Anyway, this card arrived from a Japanese sender and it was a great one.  She sent me a Gotochi Card and it was one I didn't have already. Yay!

She wrote,

Hi Helen!
Nice to meet you. こんにちは
My name is Mayumi. I'm 45 years old. I live in Shizuoka with my daughter. I'm very happy if this postcard makes you smile.  Have a good day.  Best wishes,
Mayumi

This is Kunozan Tosho-gu
and here's the Wikipedia article about it!

These are the stamps she used.  To be honest, there was one more of the ten yen stamps, but to show it I would have to show my address and I would rather not do that!  If you look closely at the 50 yen stamps, you'll see that there is a kimono shape around the flowers.  I like these stamps a lot!

Thank you so much Mayumi!

Russia

October 13, 2017

Apologies for the gap in this blog.  Since I came back, I haven't had much free time to send postcards, and I haven't received any new ones.  I'll be updating as soon as I receive new cards :-)

This card came while I was on my holiday in Canada and was held until I returned so it was registered a bit late.  It was sent by Evgeniya in Russia to me.

She wrote,
"Hi Helen.
My name is Evgeniya.  This [indicates a picture on the back on the card] is a picture part of post stamps list without a cost.  Here is Aram Il'yich Khachaturian is drawn.  He was a Soviet Armenian composer and conductor.

Have a nice day and happy Postcrossing. Evgeniya"

Taiwan

September 11, 2017

This card came from Nian En, a new postcrosser in Taiwan.  She wrote a friendly message and mentioned her favourite movie, so I am quite happy with this postcrossing!

She wrote,

Taiwan

September 11, 2017

This card came to me from Yi Chieh from Taiwan.  She posed a few questions with her card and it was unusual enough to make me smile!

She wrote,
[Kanji]! Greeting!
My name is Yi Chieh from the friendly neighborhood "Taiwan" LOL. Have you travel here yet?
I really enjoy visiting National Palace Museum where you can find lots of old stuffs there. Just like this card shows the comb used by someone who was a nobility. (I guess)
How did people use it with so many delications on it?? Wouldn't it very heavy? So confuse 😕?
What do you think about it?

Happy Postcrossing"
