Taiwan

September 11, 2017

This card came from Nian En, a new postcrosser in Taiwan.  She wrote a friendly message and mentioned her favourite movie, so I am quite happy with this postcrossing!

She wrote,
"Hello, my name is Nian En.
I am from Taichung, Taiwan. I am
a student. Taiwan is a beautiful place.
There are some interesting
things about Taiwan. We have very
high building called Tepei 01.
My favorite movie is 'Beauty and
the Beast'. My favorite Chinese
sentence is 'Nice meeting you'.
In Chinese, it is written as
'[Kanji]'
by Nian En"

Taiwan

September 11, 2017

This card came to me from Yi Chieh from Taiwan.  She posed a few questions with her card and it was unusual enough to make me smile!

She wrote,
[Kanji]! Greeting!
My name is Yi Chieh from the friendly neighborhood "Taiwan" LOL. Have you travel here yet?
I really enjoy visiting National Palace Museum where you can find lots of old stuffs there. Just like this card shows the comb used by someone who was a nobility. (I guess)
How did people use it with so many delications on it?? Wouldn't it very heavy? So confuse 😕?
What do you think about it?

Happy Postcrossing"

Germany

September 9, 2017

This card arrived in an envelope from Markus in Germany.  He had a reason for using an envelope so of course, I didn't mind!

He wrote,
"Greetings from Germany.
My name is Markus and I'm 41 years old.  I live near Hamburg in the north of Germany.  I'm married and the father from one girl and one boy. I work for the German Post and I like old cars and good books.
Sorry for the envelope but your address is so long.
All the best
Markus"

Gotochi Card - Kagoshima

September 14, 2017

I received a Gotochi card from a friend in Japan.  We are both Postcrossers and we started exchanging our prefecture cards a few years ago.

This card shows Shirokuma, a dessert made of shaved ice.  In Kagoshima, it is covered with condensed milk and then fruit is scattered on top.  It is said to resemble a polar bear...Shirokumi translates to "white bear".

You can read more about it if you like here.

Thanks, Annette!  It's a great card.

Germany

September 8, 2017

This card, complete with a couple of lovely stamps and chatty note on the back arrived recently.  Katrin wrote an interesting note which covered all of the back of the card. I love that!

She wrote,
"Hello Helen, nice to meet you!  Autumn, my favorite season is near and today we had some thunderstorms and finally cooler temperatures-I'm no fan of summer heat. But I'm a fan of British films. My absolute Fave is 'The Full Monty', but I like 'Billy Elliot', 'Calendar Girls' and the 'Best Exotic Marigold Hotel' as well. And I do like the films of Lasse Hallstrom, all of them, but the movie of 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen' and, 'An Untamed Life' best. Have a good fall! Katrin

These are a couple of really great stamps. I don't think that I've seen them before.

Germany - Actor in Black and White

September 8, 2017

This great little card came to me from Germany with a nice stamp and a friendly note on the back.  It's also quite an old card...read on and find out more.

Jorg wrote,

"Dear Helen! Best regards from Halle in Germany by Jorg.
Halle is the old birth town of the composer Handel.  Here is the mystic
'Sky Disc' --see in internet.
I like also old movies and books. Good luck for you!

Original from 1956 - a little treasure..."

What a great car stamp.  I really like it!

Thank you Jorg for sending me this lovely vintage card.  I do appreciate it.

China

September 8, 2017

This card came to me from China and was sent by a person who wrote her card in Japanese using Google Translate.  I don't know why she did that as she said that she wanted to write in English (according to my husband).  I don't read Japanese and I say that in my profile so perhaps she doesn't read English that well either.

Unfortunately I can't transcribe what she wrote on the back of the card. It seems friendly enough however.

She also used a pretty stamp, so I'm happy that she did send the card to me.

I have no idea what this card represents!
I do like the bird stamp, however.
