Germany

December 25, 2017

This card came from Sylvia in Germany.  She wrote a short but friendly note on her card too.

She said,
"Moin!
My name is Sylvia, I'm a 36 years old teacher. My favorite music is Bon Jovi!

I live in Osnabruck, small city in northern Germany.

Best Wishes,
Sylvia"

Thanks, Sylvia.

Just a little side note.  This card and the card preceding it arrived on Christmas day and were sent by Sylvie and Sylvia.  Interesting, non?!

France

December 25, 2017

This pretty card arrived on Christmas day all the way from France.  It was sent by Sylvie and she wrote a nice and friendly note on the back of the card.

She said,

"Hello, Bonjour, greetings from France where I live in a little town just about one hour from Paris where I work.

Have a good day!! Bye, au revoir,

Sylvie"

This interesting stamp was on the card too.  I like the black and white and gold colours of it.

Thanks Sylvie!

Russian Actor - Black and White Card

December 1, 2017

One of the fabulous things I like about Postcrossing is the chance to learn more about subjects that I love.  I am a movie fanatic and I love black and white photos too.  This means that when someone sends me a black and white photo of an actor that I am not familiar with, I get really excited.  This card was one that made me very happy!

Galina sent this card of actor Vladimir Vysotsky. I must admit that I hadn't heard of him before this.

She wrote,

"Hello, Helen! My name is Galina. I live in a small town not far from Moscow.
My passion is travelling. Postcard photo of the popular actor of theatre and cinema, singer Vladimir Vysotsky.

Best wishes from Russia.

Galina"

Vladimir Vysotsky (Linked to his IMDb Profile)

What the IMDb doesn't say, but should, according to this blog, is that Vladimir Vysotsky was the singer on the music that Mikhail Baryshnikov dances to in the theatre in White Nights. I'm linking to a video... the video may be taken down at any time, so this link may not always work.

It is actually rather a surprise for me to find the link. White Nights is one of my favourite films and this song haunted me from the first time I saw the film.  I never had any idea who the singer was, since I didn't hear the name of the singer in the movie.  The song wasn't on the soundtrack either, so never looked it up before this.

The stamp Galina used is rather attractive too.

All in all, this is a very cool Postcrossing that just keeps getting more and more interesting!  Thank you so much Galina!

from our castle on the top of the hill. and shows my town.

This card came from Mika in Finland.  He wrote a friendly note and used a beautiful couple of stamps so I'm quite happy.

He wrote,

"Greetings from Finland!

I just love the movie "Under the Tuscan Sun". I'm passionate about travelling and living abroad (again) is a HUGE dream waiting to be fulfilled!

Happy Postcrossing!
-Mika"

I quite like these stamps.  They are both quite beautiful in their way.

Russia - Movie/Book Related

November 21, 2017

This card showed up in my mailbox last month and is from Galina.  She wrote a friendly note and used gorgeous stamps too, so I really enjoyed this postcard.

She wrote,

"Hello from Russia, Helen.  This postcard is about the film "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" Have you watched this movie? I like this.

I wish you good cards, good and happiness!

Galina"

I think this is a really cool card.  Unfortunately for me, I can't read the printing on the card, so I don't know if the artist's name is there or not. It does quite look like Eddie Redmayne in a way.

Look at these gorgeous stamps.  Very beautiful. I don't know if she knew that pears are one of the products from my region of Japan or not. Just lovely.  I also love the hand written "Par Avion!" underneath.

An interesting stamp, especially for me.
